After spending your hectic weekdays at work, there comes a time when you get into the mood of adventure and excitement. A quick getaway is what we all transpire for, a nice relaxing time with family, friends or with oneself. We have taken the liberty to compile a list of quick getaways not far from Delhi. 1. Ranikhet

Distance from Delhi: 348 kms

Due to its natural scenic beauty, Ranikhet is one of the most visited destinations by tourists. It is rich in flora and fauna. Literally, Ranikhet means the Queen’s meadow. Going by an epic which says Queen Padmini of Kumaon had great affection towards this hill station, hence, the name was inspired from her love for the land. Ranikhet is surrounded by the great Himalayan range. The headquarters of a regiment of Indian Army- Kumaon Regiment, is also in Ranikhet.

2. Almora

Distance from Delhi: 360 kms

Almora is a town in Uttrakhand which is also 48 kms from Ranikhet. It is famous for its temples including Kasar Devi temple and Nanda Devi temple. It is rich in culture and is widely known for wildlife also. Nearby to this town is the Binsar wildlife sanctuary. When in Almora one should visit Kumaon Regimental Centre Museum which is located uphill from mall road. The museum contains numerous war treasures including weapons that were recovered from wars like the 1962 war India fought with China and from the World War II. A visit to Almora will be a great treat for history enthusiasts.

3. Chail

Distance from Delhi: 349 kms

Chail is a picturesque hill station in Himachal Pradesh. Chail is covered with gigantic deodars and pine trees. It is at a height of 2,250 meters above the sea level also having the highest cricket ground in the world. One side of Chail is situated in the vicinity of Himalayan ranges, which is completely covered by snow. A must visit place in Chail is Kali Ka Tibba, from where one can get a good view of the valley. Few travelers call it a tourists’ heaven. Amazing sightseeing is enough to allure you to make it a part of your itinerary.

4. Kufri

Distance from Delhi: 375 kms

Kufri is a word that signifies a “lake” in language spoken by people of the hills. It is 13 kms ahead of Shimla, which is the state capital of Himachal Pradesh. The town  is known for its wild life zoo where visitors can find rare species of deers, felines (tigers, jaguars, domestic cats) other than birds. State bird of Himachal Pradesh, the Himalan Monal is also found in Kufru’s zoo. Interestingly, in the winter season, the potato plantations in the hill station take form of a ski track.

5. Rathambore National Park

Distance from Delhi: 367 kms

Ranthambore National Park is amongst the largest national parks of Northern India. It is in an area cover of 392 km². The wildlife sanctuary is well known for its protection of tigers by providing them a natural habitat. Other wild animals which can be easily spotted here are hyena, wild boar, leopard etc. It is also a home to largest banyan trees growing in India. It is open for visitors from 1st October to 30th June every year. A visit to Ranthambore is always full of adventure and excitement

6. Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary

Distance from Delhi: 48 kms

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is declared as a National Park by the Haryana government. It is a paradise for bird lovers who can spot as many as 250 species of birds around the national park. Though some birds found here are resident birds, some birds also migrate from faraway lands such as Europe, Siberia and Afghanistan. Migratory birds are best found in winters, so for visitors the ideal time to visit Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is in the winter season. A full round of the national park takes over 1.5 hrs.
